Let\u2019s Ride for the Fondation\u2014An Inspiring cycling Challenge to Support Our Community\u2019s Health<\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

One year after a shocking diagnosis, Richard uses his cycling experience to give back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us on Saturday, August 9, 2025, for a very special event: \u201cLet\u2019s Ride for the Fondation\u201d, a cycling tour open to everyone and organized by a man whose journey is as inspiring as it is incredible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2024, Richard Leclair faced the risk of complete paralysis or even death due to a large tumour in his spine. Thanks to the quick action and vigilance of the team at H\u00f4pital de Saint-Eustache, especially Dr. Samuel Demers and Dr. Paul Korkmaz, he was diagnosed early. He was urgently transferred to H\u00f4pital du Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur-de-Montr\u00e9al, where a life-saving surgery was carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year later, Richard is healthier than ever. To thank those who helped him recover and to support local healthcare, he has committed to cycling 50 km to raise funds for HIS Foundation, OUR Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One year after his diagnosis, Richard had the chance to reunite with the doctors who literally saved his life during an emotional meeting organized by the Fondation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f In the first photo, he is surrounded by Dr. Paul Korkmaz<\/strong> (physiatrist) and Dr. Samuel Demers<\/strong> (emergency physician), who diagnosed him early and accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was surreal to have the three of us sitting at the same table\u2026 When you see Richard today, able to walk and even eat normally, it\u2019s hard to believe given the condition he was in a year ago.\u201d\u2014Dr. Korkmaz<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f In the second photo, he is pictured with Dr. Laroche<\/strong>, the neurosurgeon at H\u00f4pital du Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur-de-Montr\u00e9al who carried out the emergency surgery and managed all post-operative follow-up over the months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThanks to this surgery, I\u2019ve regained my normal life. I never thought I\u2019d be able to get back on a bike again.\u201d\u2014Richard<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since fall 2024, Richard has become a dedicated volunteer with the Fondation. For him, participating in this cycling challenge is a tangible way to give back to the community and support the Fondation\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<\/div>

An event for everyone<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This event aims to be inclusive, accessible, and fun. Whether you\u2019re an experienced cyclist or a beginner, you can participate and choose the distance that suits you. You\u2019ll have the chance to ride alongside Richard for as many kilometres as you like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route will be divided into two sections of approximately 25 km. You choose: the outbound, the return, or the round trip! It\u2019s not a race, but a solidarity movement focused on health, hope, fun, and generosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goals of the event:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udeb4\u200d To honour <\/strong>all healthcare workers who dedicate themselves daily, often in challenging conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc99 To raise funds<\/strong> to support the Fondation H\u00f4pital Saint-Eustache, which acquires essential medical equipment and improves care in our region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f To raise awareness<\/strong> about the significant role of hospital foundations in the quality of care provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udeb2 To promote cycling <\/strong>as a therapeutic resource accessible to everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd25 To motivate you to push your limits<\/strong>, by cycling 160 km in a single day.\ud83d\udeb4\u200d Rendre hommage<\/strong> \u00e0 tout le personnel de la sant\u00e9 qui, chaque jour, se d\u00e9voue dans des conditions souvent difficiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can I participate?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Go to our secure donation platform<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Create your participant or team profile;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Pledge to collect donations for the Fondation H\u00f4pital Saint-Eustache.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. On the day of the event, make sure to bring a well-maintained bike, your puncture repair kit, and remember that wearing a helmet is mandatory!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Richard\u2019s story reminds us that every diagnosis made and every action taken by our hospital staff can save someone\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
